Abstract
The absorption of electromagnetic waves in detector structures can be greatly modified by microstructuring the detector surface. Narrow resonances with more than 90 % decrease in the reflected light intensity (s or p polarized) of coated and uncoated Schottky structures can be achieved by an optimal choice of the surface profile. 1-3 Narrowband photosignals with quantum efficiencies up to 30 % are observed on Al-SiO2-p-Si and GaAs-Ag junctions. The photoresponsivity of metal-insulator-semiconductor tunnel structures on sinusoidally corrugated gratings is found to be enhanced by surface plasmon polaritons confined at the vacuum-metal interface.
