Abstract
Ring resonators (RRs) recently gained great attention due to their potential for DWDM-applications, e.g. dispersion compensation [1] and ultra-compact Add&Drop multiplexers [2]. At present, however, the application of RRs is restricted to niche applications [3] due to the high FSR (Free Spectral Range) and the performance required for DWDM-systems. Meanwhile, first ring resonators with FSR-values in the THz-range have been demonstrated [4] and intensive research [5,6,7] is performed aiming at the realization of devices ready for system applications.
