Abstract
Computational tools for modeling and simulation are essential for successful design, optimization, and realization of integrated optical circuitry. For this purpose several different techniques exist and mode matching technique is one of them [1], [2]. The basic idea behind the mode matching technique is first to divide a given geometry into subsections in which the wave equation is separable. Then field components are expanded in terms of a complete set, hence mode expansions are formed. As an example consider the rib waveguide shown in Figure 1.
