Abstract
Eutectic composites are self-organized materials which exhibit intriguing electromagnetic properties, leading to new possibilities with respect to the constituent materials. Here we investigate emission properties in ZnO-ZnWO4 eutectic; this self-organized material consists of ZnO lamellae specially oriented with respect to the biaxial ZnWO4 matrix. The sample is fabricated by means of the micro-pulling-down (µ-PD) [1,2], resulting in ≈ 240 nm ZnO lamellae, embedded in a fairly regular manner in the ZnWO4 matrix (inset in Fig. 1(a)). A strong exciton emission at room temperature in the blue range previously confirmed the high quality and crystallinity of the ZnO phase.
