Abstract
Recently erbium lasers have been proposed as an alternative to ArF-excimer lasers for photoablative tissue processing, in particular for refractive corneal surgery. ArF-excimer lasers emitting at 193 nm are well known for their excellent quality in tissue processing. On the other hand, the excimer laser suffers from the disadvantages of high prime and operating costs, expensive beam delivery systems, handling with hazardous gas and its bulky dimensions.
