Abstract

Frequency conversion of high-intensity radiation of Nd: glass and YAG lasers in different media have been investigated. Various factors leading to limitation of conversion efficiency are examined. An investigation was made of cascade generation of the second, fourth and fifth harmonics of radiation from a wide-aperture Nd: glass laser in KDP and ADP crystals. The efficiencies of energy conversion of Nd: glass laser radiation to the second and fourth harmonics were 0.87 and 0.92. It was found that the main factor limiting the efficiency of the fifth harmonic generation is two-photon absorption of radiation. The efficiency of conversion to the fifth harmonic was 0.19.
