Abstract
Gain-coupled DFB lasers show an increased yield,1 a higher side mode suppression ratio,1 as well as a reduced sensitivity to external reflection as compared to index-coupled devices.2 As has been shown, the carrier dynamics in the corrugated absorptive grating may also significantly alter the device behaviour under direct modulation.3 Thus, a reduction of linewidth and chirp has been demonstrated.4
