Abstract
Scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM) is a new imaging technique that allows one to obtain spatial resolution far beyond the classical diffraction limit.1 Analysis of biological samples may be one of the most exciting applications of such a technique. Here we present the first near-field optical images of various cells of human blood and discuss further improvement and possible applications of our SNOM.
