Abstract
KTiOPO4 (KTP) crystal is an excellent nonlinear material since it has large nonlinear coefficients and high damage threshold. Furthermore, KTP crystal can be used for 90°-pbase-matched sum- frequency generation (SFG) from 1.32 μm and 0.66 μm to 0.44 μm. This is the key to blue-light generation from a Nd:YAG laser since one can combine quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic generation (QPM SHG) and SFG in one crystal to achieve third-harmonic generation (THG). Recently, we have achieved THG in a partly-periodically-poled KTP (PP-KTP) from a tunable OPO laser at 1.327 μm producing picosecond pulses and a repetition rate of 76 MHz.1 However, the THG from a 1.319-μm Nd:YAG laser has never been achieved because the monochromatic emission wavelength from the Nd:YAG laser requires a more accurate poling period. In this report, we have re-designed our KTP crystal with a new poling period and achieved efficient generation of coherent blue and red light from a NdrYAG laser. 2
