Abstract
A 1.3-µm GaInAsP near traveling-wave amplifier (TWA) has recently been fabricated using angled facets together with antireflection coatings.1 To increase the accessibility of this device to system experiments, a high coupling efficiency package is desirable. However, we wish to avoid submicron alignment tolerances frequently associated with such high efficiency coupling. We have, therefore, used a nearly confocal coupling scheme to achieve these goals.
